In my belief, I see all of Disney's movies as happy and uplifting even if bad things do happen in the middle of them. I love Disney and never had anything that made me change my mind. However, after conducting some research about the princess movies I had to give a second thought to what I thought before I read so many bad but true things happening in the Disney princess movies.
Many think that Disney movies, mainly the princess ones, are having a positive effect on everyone watching. This however is very far from the truth. According to this article from What Culture there are ten major things that Disney is teaching us. The ten negative things include:
1) History is only what the people want it be.

1) History is only what the people want it be.
Disney had got history all wrong! I don't want my kids growing up knowing false and inaccurate information! Do you?
2) Removing what is in your way permanently is effective.
2) Removing what is in your way permanently is effective.
Do you think parent's should really be letting their kids watch movies that are encouraging them to get rid of those people in their way? I THINK NOT!! Just because you are have a problem or issue with someone that does't mean you can kill them! Children need to be taught to handle their problems by talking to one another in order to solve a dispute.
3) It teaches men that they all have to be princes.
3) It teaches men that they all have to be princes.
I know it's weird to think about but little boys watch these princess movies too! They are pretty much being told that they have to be exceptionally handsome and have to do every little thing for their crush if they want them to be their girlfriend. Which is honestly absolutely ridiculous! First off beauty is in the eyes of its beholder. Everyone is beautiful and handsome in their own way and this should be made more aware in these Disney movies. Second, girls need to learn that not everything is going to be handed them like the princess movies are implying. Girls have to get off their butts and do stuff too!!
4) There is no magic that is going to find you.
4) There is no magic that is going to find you.
MAGIC IS NOT REAL! Things don't just get handed to you if your parents don't give it to you. You can't have everything you want and there is never going to be any kind of magic to make your dreams come true! You have to make things happen yourself and be happy with the outcome!!!! If it's not meant to be then it's not meant to be and something better for you will come around. After all, Patience is a virtue.
5) People belong in there own ethnic groups because they belong together.
6) In order to be a genuine guy you have to look the part.

6) In order to be a genuine guy you have to look the part.
No normal looking person looks like this. And no normal person is going to have perfect sculpted muscles! Kids need to start being happy with what they've got and embrace all of it instead of comparing themselves to others.
7) It teaches girls to go against what their elders are telling them.
7) It teaches girls to go against what their elders are telling them.
Growing up I was always taught to listen to my mom and dad! So why should Disney say otherwise? I don't think parents should allow their kids to watch movies that are going against what you are teaching them. Kids have a hard enough time listening to their parents without movies influencing them as well. The contradicting thoughts being implanted in their minds is a big no no! Stick to what you want your kids to know, I mean after all they are your kids!
8) Shows girls what they should really look like. How skinny they are, the perfect face structure, and great hair.
8) Shows girls what they should really look like. How skinny they are, the perfect face structure, and great hair.
No one looks like this!!!! No ones face is that flawless with perfect bone structure! No ones body is an that skinny and curvy! Kids want to look like these princesses, but it isn't possible! In my opinion, every child, teenager, and adult need to be happy with what they've got and not worry about what someone else looks like.
9) Evil is never obvious like in the movies and it will destroy you if you aren’t paying attention.

Have you ever noticed how all the villains in the movies are scary and ugly? Well it's very true! Ever single bad guy is! In life, most of the mean and bad people are actually very pretty! Having all the villains look ugly and scary is just teaching kids that all those who aren't perfect are bad and that all those who are perfectly pretty are good. Good and bad people come in different appearances which needs to be taught to children.
10) Everyone always ends up living happily ever after.
10) Everyone always ends up living happily ever after.
Not everyone always ends up happy and perfect with a prince for a husband. Some people don't even want to be married and guess what? They end up by themselves and are content with it. Everyone's happiness is different, but by watching these princess movies it seems as if you can only be happy if you have a man. Personally, I think that if you can't be happy by yourself then I feel sorry for you. You have to accept yourself before anyone else can.
Also, in this article from Word Press shows four flaws in what Disney is teaching us and then breaks it down for how each princess is commit. The flaws include:
1) Princesses are co-dependent, never telling the truth, and are willing to change anything about them for the man they love.
2) If children are seeing many broken families could advise them to have dysfunctional relationships with their families because they are not likeable or interesting.
3) Disney is teaching us to make friends with animals and inanimate objects instead of talking to humans. It is making some incompetent of making regular human-to-human relationships.

Once again this is being pointed out, because nowadays people do judge a book by its cover. Not only that but people just assume things instead of getting to know you. After all, it's whats on the inside that counts!
When watching many of these Disney movies I never noticed many themes that were being suggested. Even though some of these negative things are true, in my personal opinion I don’t think children think or even know about most of these things. That being said, after I did research on the negative ideas in the movies I realized most of them were very true. I like many others would not have noticed all the bad things. As for being a child and watching Disney movies I believe that they would never notice these things. Even I as a college student didn’t see some of the apparent subjective themes while watching the movies. I hardly realized most of these impacts in Disney movies existed.
Many children don’t realize what they are watching or may not understand all of the negative things being shoved into their brain. However, all these negative things that are listed above are in the child’s brain even if it not at first recognized.
